My City
Saturday, March 31, 2007 Hello again, it's been more than a month since I left my residence in QC. And now because it is the weekend, I kind of miss it more. I think Let's Go has already aired and it's already Sunday there. I miss QC, I may not be the king or queen of QC, or maybe I could have been. This is what I watch when I miss the city. I'll try to identify the places in the video. at 0:07 - Ever Commonwealth, they're going towards Fairview I think at 0:21 - hey it's Quezon avenue and Quezon's Monument at 0:36 - hey it's UP! that's the gym right there and you can see the overpass that all AIT students are grateful for at 0:38 - it's the overpass in Philcoa at 0:50 - you can see the INC main church and the big McDo arc, that's the one in Tandang Sora at 0:54 - the AIT overpass again! from 1:00 to 1:04 - they are around the QC circle in the background, you can see Philcoa (the real building), the unfinished building behind QC City Hall at 1:59 - this is Quezon Avenue again, lots of bars in the area God bless Juana for making this song and video. I like the song Goodbye too, by the way. Labels: Juana, Quezon city My Midnight SnackMonday, March 26, 2007 It's a good thing these guys order pizza at around midnight. That is why I just had pizza. Nakakabusog. Basta don't convert the cost into pesos, manghihinayang ka. Anyway, after a month of stay here in beautiful Winnipeg, the weather is becoming more tolerable and finally the snow is melting. Thank God for the beautiful weather for the past couple of days, I was able to go out sans the thermal wear. I went to the doctor last Saturday and thank goodness everything turned out okay except for the part where I had to pay 50 bucks! I was $5 short, good thing Lee was there. The people in the clinic were very helpful the staff was mostly Filipinos, doctors and receptionists. The topic of the talk was cellphones, retail, and clothing. They were talking about how cheap it was to shop in the Philippines and the quality of the clothes according to them is way better than those found here. I agree, I miss shopping at People are People. And cellphones! Calls are cheaper than text messages relatively. Anyway, culture shock is not really an experience for me. I think 'tis easier for me to adjust when compared to my folks. But I'm not about to go into that. This blog is about me :) And I wouldn't talk about them here anyway or of my other relatives unless I really need to air something out. I have little photos as of late, anyway I'll post more when I get the opportunity, like my own camera. I don't have my own anymore. And my camera phone is not that reliable. And here in Canada, they have two teams in the NBA: the Raptors and the Suns (because of Nash). My Playlist Wednesday, March 21, 2007 I've been updating my playlist lately, organizing the mp3s that we ripped from the CDs we left at home and then downloading some, okay a lot. People sing about the coming of spring, says one 311 song. But it still doesn't come, for me. Bukas 4 degrees Celsius na! Nakakainggit sa ibang lugar may mga cherry blossoms na. Mukhang white Christmas pa rin dito. Anyway, I've chanced upon the whole 1896 Ang Pagsilang album. I miss my cassette tape, I lost it in high school. I lost a lot of records in high school! Too many, more than half of my collection. Also, I had Silverchair's first 2 albums. We did a cover of Tomorrow, I think or was it Israel's Son? Good thing there are mp3's of Sgt. Pepper's available on the net. I can't rip them off the DVD, I don't know how. I'm feelin' a bit nostalgic right now as I'm listening to these tracks. I remember fondly how it was during high school; simple, no complications, just school and back to the dorm. Not even a high school girlfriend. What the heck was I doing then? I have one regret though, I didn't bring our V8 of Can I Graduate. Hope it's still there when I go home. Now that I'm older, I'm more into 70s and 80s music, the songs I heard growing up. I still love the 90s and the early part of the 21st century, but for me the best songs were written in the 70s. Okay, The Beatles were great, so the 60s were okay too. Right now though, my favorite is Tear Drop by Massive Attack, recently famous as being the theme from House MD. Very addicting, lulls you to sleep. My Slippers Tuesday, March 13, 2007 I can't wear my slippers when I go out. Ang tagal kasi ng spring eh. Anyway, one of things that I took for granted while I was still at home was the weather. Right now, I'm totally missing tropics. Hindi pa rin ako sanay sa lamig, tapos my skin gets dry and lips chap. Hopefully, spring comes soon. The good thing about being here is you can watch Prison Break on TV, right when it first comes out. Here in Winnipeg, people are crazy about spring and summer. They crave for it. According to my aunt, people would go swimming even after work. One maximizes their time out. This is mainly due to the fact that summer lasts around 2 months compared to the cold winter season which may last as long as 4! I can't wait to see the trees, I heard their beautiful during that time. I got out of the house today to go to my first job screening. The last one I had was in the Philippines a couple of months ago. I was applying for a sales position then. This one was a tech support position, a job that I am not very familiar with, but most of the yuppies in the Philippines are. I also went to a mall to buy shoes. I forgot that aside from the tag price, you also need to pay applicable taxes. They should already include that in the price like they do in most malls in our country. Anyway, I actually miss SM. Prison Break's new episode next week on Fox! My Phone Tuesday, March 6, 2007 I have with me now a T610. It's pretty much of no use right now since I'm in another country and to use it would too costly. I have been with it for almost three years now. You see, here it is no longer a necessity as much as it was in the Philippines. Phone booths are almost everywhere. Even the picture quality is not that satisfactory, although it still receives the occasional text from home. Anyway, what I've noticed here is that there are lot of Filipinos residing in this city. I mean you can find Filipinos almost anywhere, in the hospital, at a clinic, at the mall, restaurants, bus stations, at the cinema. In my experience, they don't greet you when you see them, unlike other residents. It's freezing here. I hope winter ends soon. |
