My Bad Day
Sunday, September 12, 2004

of course, I don't mean that yesterday was really a bad day. For me every day is a blessing. Just had two unexpected encounters or as they say in the fallout world, random encounters yesterday.

As I was coming from UP, I had to ride the bus. So I got on one at Quezon Avenue. Since it was a Saturday, a lot of people go home for the weekend and the bus was really full. Around 10+ were standing, I was really lucky because I managed to snatch the last available. No I did not give my seat to the ladies. Anyway when we were at the Candaba viaduct, this is the long bridge that connects Bulacan to Pampanga. The right rear tire exploded. It was a relief that we were going at moderate speeds and the driver was able to put on the breaks. So we went real slow after the konduktor checked the tires, so there were still 5, there were four rear tires and two at the front. Just when we're about to reach the San Simon exit, another one burst and there was no choice but to get off. I did not wait for another bus from the same company since it was a Saturday and they were probably full like the one i rode. Anyway I walked with the other passengers and went to San Simon exit. Then after reaching San Simon, I walked a couple more meters, to the McArthur HiWay to get a ride to San Fernando City Proper. However, I managed to get on a jeepney going to SM, so to SM i went and after 45 minutes, I arrived at home. Good thing I was safe the whole trip. All I got were dirty feet as the expressway is under construction and the ground beside the street was dry and was very dusty. And I didn't wear shoes, instead I had sandals.

As I was walking towards San Simon Exit, I muttered to myself, "puno na nagsasakay pa! overloaded tuloy."

Prior to my getting on the bus, my hands were shaking because I just got out of an encounter with strangers as I was walking out of the convenience store, where I bought myself ice cream to treat myself. Our final consultation for 122 was yesterday so as a treat, I bought ice cream. A stranger stopped me and the first thought that came to my mind was they want to do something bad to me. I was thinking that this might be their modus operandi of, I don't know, robbing or whatever. First he was asking me if I was a member of a gang, it was really unclear what he was driving at. Anyway, it turned out that he had a companion and he was also asking another guy who went out of the convenience store. So I was wondering if the 2nd guy was an accomplice too. I didn't want to just get out of there as I might appear to be impolite, and at that time the guy who approached me first requested that he was asking for help to find a group of teenagers who harassed his niece and his niece's boyfriend. I didn't know what to do but my feet brought to the bakery along Quezon Avenue and together with the 2nd guy, we were asked to wait for one of these people's companion who went to the police station to get the picture or stuff that they recovered from the scene. Napraning talaga ako. Basta I just prayed that nothing but would happen. So as we were waiting for the other guy to arrive, I patiently explained that I was late for something and then excused myself. So I went, unscathed. Never talk to strangers, better to err on the side of caution than on the side of danger. I don't know what happend to the 2nd guy though, I overheard one of the strangers said that one the guys who harassed her niece was wearing a cap like him.

Anyway, after what happened, I didn't know if I handled the situation well. The important thing was, I was not hurt. And I only lost about 10 minutes. But what a rush, I somehow wanted to go back and check on the other guy but didn't I just wanted to eat my ice cream and go home. The next would be different, if there ever will be. But it will still be unpredictable as what happened today.

I haven't even told anyone except for Mei-an what happened today as my girlfriend and I are not on good terms as of the moment.
