My Fellow Iskolars (the UPians)

Surely you've heard of the term UPian. Why in the world will you call yourself that? Okay, to me it sounds ridiculous. It is like someone trying to sound like an Atenean. Of course you can't call yourself that because you're not from Ateneo. This term UPian, I only saw it on online forums particularly PEx. And I think it wasn't coined by UP students but by other students from other universities. When I was a freshman, I didn't hear upperclassmen call themselves UPians. It's taga-UP.

In the cheer even, "matatapang, matatalino, ganyan kaming mga taga-UP." I propose that we discourage UP students, present and future, from calling themselves UPians. Of course if they want to call themselves that I can't stop them. To each his own.

And the bird in our seal is a Parrot!
