Okay here goes, I've been in Canada for more than a month. And so I met lots of people. Anyway, I was mistaken for a lot of things, particularly my looks. I dunno, maybe I have an innocent face, a deceiving one I suppose. I'll enumerate them:

1. I look younger than my age, some thought I was still a teenager. You see my younger and brother and I, we don't look alike. They thought he was the eldest. If I remember correctly, it was Anne who pointed that out, she thought my brother was the eldest cousin. Anne is Lee's girlfriend and Lee is my cousin. I don't look my age, I look around 5 years younger than my real age! And even at work they think I'm not fit to do the job because they think I'm younger than my actual age.

2. I'm not Filipino, sort of. Yeah, the first time someone said that I looked like an Indian in my ID. Another instance, someone thought I was Japanese. It was like this, there were four of us. And among the four, only one didn't understand Filipino. So the two were conversing in Filipino
right, and then I spoke to the other one in English. So we were talking see, anyway, when the non-Filipino left, this guy asked me if I could understand Filipino. I said yes. He thought I was Japanese. Sometimes, people forget it's impolite to speak in a language that is not understood by everyone in a group. The last instance was one person thought I was of Latin American origin.

3. Ah another misconception is that I grew up in Canada. The reason, I speak good English, even better than some of the Filipinos who have been here for quite a long time. When they ask me how I can speak that well, I just say TV! Hollywood! Of course the real reason for that is the excellent education I got from our country (Re: the University of the Philippines and Philippine Science High School).

Okay that's not entirely true either; school teaches grammar and that other stuff. It's really hours watching TV since I was a kid that helped me learn the language.
