Bienvenue!
Thursday, December 7, 2006 Welcome to my newest blog. I have decided to move to a new one after more than 3 years with blog-city. The reason, I find that I have more freedom to design here. Anyway, what's new with me? Well first of all, I have a new haircut. After deciding that I would want my hair to grow back to its extra length two years ago, I changed my mind and got back to my old short messed up top. I just heard this on the news, the House of Representatives has just approved that it "will convene as a constituent assembly" so that they can discuss amendments to the 1987 Constitution particularly the shift in government, from presidential to parliamentary. I didn't see the session but I read that it was televised on cable. And from the sources that I have read, the deliberations were railroaded by "lawmakers loyal" to the President. And of course as expected, protest actions were held by groups opposed to charter change; I believed they are disgusted by the railroading done by Congress. Now I am all for Charter Change but I don't think that the time is right. I think that Congress should focus their time on education. I am for UP's Charter Change! Ang tagal na nito eh, It's been 2 years since I was a councilor and there has been no progress at all. And now UP is faced with an impending tuition fee increase and rebracketting of the Socialized Tuition Fee Assistance Program. Ensuite, since I have graduated, I am not really up to date on what is happening in the university. But from what I saw last Monday when I was there, I didn't see any outrage or violent reactions from the students that I saw. And to think that tuition fee increases are really big issues in UP. Very little people were talking about it. At least in peyups people are discussing it. From my preliminary inquiries, the highest bracket would be A where the tuition fee per unit would become P1,500. A 400% increase. Wow! Anyway I will not dwell on this anymore until I find a more concrete answer. Elsewhere, we have a typhoon coming and if it enters the Philippine area of responsibility it will be called Seniang. So far it is registering wind speeds of up to 50 km/h and it is moving westward at around 20 km/h. It was last seen at around 1000 kms. east of Leyte. Let's pray it wouldn't wreak havoc again. Climate changes are really happening. Typhoon season used to end at around August but it's already December and it is only now that we are experiencing these devastating typhoons. Did you know that Cebu's current governor is named Gwen Garcia? Au revoir. Bonne nuit. Labels: current events |
