My Peyups Experience
Wednesday, February 16, 2005

I’ve been a member of this community for 3 years. It is amazing that a lot has happened since joining this bustling community. I have posted a lot of my experiences during those past years but let me enumerate some of the most memorable, some of which were a direct consequence of my being a Peyups member.

Let us start with my first post; I’m hoping it still posted here although the moderator might have deleted that thread. I joined Peyups last February 2002, as I was browsing the net that is related to UP, I was pointed to this website. During that time, you can still post anonymously. I on the other signed up for a new account. I had a previous account but I forgot what my account name was. I had no choice but to register for a new one, at that time of course, new accounts are still allowed; so I became calvinluther. We were sponsoring a night in the UP Fair at that time. That afternoon, I was with my fraternity brothers posting publicity materials along Commonwealth Ave. up to the mall at Fairview. Afterwards, we went straight to UP. We parked our car at the Institute of Biology, a few moments later, I heard an explosion and I saw smoke coming from Kamia Residence Hall. Seconds later, men wearing improvised masks, i.e. shirts wrapped around their heads, carrying lead pipes were running towards the dormitory. A melee ensued. It was a rumble right in front of my eyes. That was the first and only rumble I ever witnessed. That was first post in Peyups; I believe the title of the thread was “Wala na bang rumbles?”

Fast forward, May 2002, I attended my first eyeball (eb); there I met Ate Mimi and Kuya Karl, pillbox, dementor, arkaell, gesundheit, marius, just to name a few. I got hold of my first Peyups shirt, which I don’t wear because it just doesn’t fit me anymore. The next month, Peyups held an eb at the Enchanted Kingdom; it was my first time to visit the theme park. I threw up after riding the big swing; I forgot the name of the ride. It was also there that I met an old friend from grade school, she was shocked as I was that were Peyups members.

Shortly after, Peyups held its first concert in UP, which was aptly titled Rock Enroll. I was invited by Kuya Karl to host the concert; there were 4 of us: gesundheit, pillbox, kink_gurl, and me. It was my first time to host a concert and I thank Kuya Karl and Ate Mimi for letting me host their event. I got to introduce Cynthia Alexander! The next year, Peyups held Rock Enroll 2. This time, I worked behind the scenes. Actually there were a lot of concerts that Peyups organized and sponsored. In one that I attended, there was a near brawl. Good thing it was prevented.
I also joined Peyups’ Virtual Survivor 3 and Crab Mentality. Sadly, I didn’t win.

The introduction of the Photo of the Day gave me my 15 minutes of fame, okay 24-hour exposure on the net.
Fast forward, February 2004, it was the University Student Council elections. As an independent candidate, I had no party supporting my candidacy, and I was fully dependent on my friends and orgmates to help the campaign. Fortunately, Peyups supported me and I’m very grateful that I was POTD during the campaign period. With the limited resources at my disposal, I came in 12th.

After 3 years, I still log-on despite my busy schedule. I usually check the Campus Issues forum to check on what people have to say to us in the USC. Back then, I know almost everyone posting in the Members’ Area, now I barely know who’s posting. Despite this, Peyups never ceases to be my regular online hangout.
