My Friends from Elementary
Saturday, January 8, 2005

Yesterday, the 7th marked the month before we, Tin and I, celebrate our 4th year together, I still keep count. I also heard that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston separated after 7 years. The number 7 is special to us. Or at least is significant, whatever. Anyway, I had coffee with my friends last New Year's we stayed in the coffeehouse until midnight, only 5 went to our impromptu reunion, that's around 1/7 of our elementary class. Frederick arrived first, then me, then Tony and Iona, Kristine arrived last. We talked for hours, the topics ranged from our days in elementary, their job experiences, as I am lacking in that department. Hmm I just realized, the five of us went to different high schools. Except for Frederick however, we all went to UP; Iona, Tony, and me are from Diliman, while Kristine went to Clark. I used to remember Kristine as one of the tallest in our class, I on the other hand was one of the cutest, and still is, how I wish. I remember in elementary, when I was just starting, I wore short shorts to class, I believe it was only when I was in the 3rd grade or 4th that I started to wear pants as part of my school uniform.

Talking about the past almost always brings good memories; it was a relief to share the past with the people who you actually spend it with. Telling Tintin about past experiences somehow gets tiring after a while. So we were talking about the play that we staged when we were in 4th grade. The class was divided in groups of 10, 5 boys and 5 girls each. Each group was assigned a fairy tale, ours was Cinderella. Guess which part I played? The prince hahaha. That was really surprising, I didn't boyish good looks that princes have. I don't even remember any of my female classmates having a crush on me, save for a rumor or two. I really think I was assigned that role because no one was willing to take it, so I accepted. The princess was Gina, and weeks before the play we were practicing in St Jude during weekends. It was really a disappointment for me that I had but a few lines, the bulk of my performance was dancing with Cinderella and one of her step sisters played by Jinky. Wala nga palang kissing scene hehehe.

My elementary years were also plagued by sickness, there never was a year that I got sent to the hospital and confined for days. Now I'm healthy, just out of shape.
